Greetings Fellow Titans –

With the colder weather come plans for the holiday breaks. Please remember that instructional time is protected at Northview and we ask that students be present up until the beginning of scheduled vacation days. Thanksgiving Break will be November 24 – 26 and the Winter Break is December 23 – January 4, 2011.

Testing before each holiday break is scheduled by subject to alleviate the added stress of too many assessments on any given day.

  • Thursday 11/18 and Monday 11/22 are scheduled for tests and class assessments for Math, Social Studies and World Languages.
  • Friday 11/19 and Tuesday 11/23 are designated for Science, Language Arts and Electives.

Looking ahead, final exams for 1st semester are December 20 – 22, 2010. Unit tests for Science, Language Arts and Electives will be Tuesday, December 14th. Wednesday, December 15th is designated for Math, Social Studies and World Languages. This will allow for review days on Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th.

If for some reason your child will miss final exams, please realize that they will not be given early. Do not ask! Any exams that are missed can be taken on either January 4, 2011 (Teacher Workday) or during the first week of 2nd semester. All exams and outstanding work must be completed within the first 10 days of the following semester. However, please realize that it is important for all instructional time to be respected – we strongly discourage students from missing these important testing days.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, students, staff members, and community leaders who worked on this year’s International Night. The turnout was unbelievable and the food, talent, and dedication of all present was a testament to Northview’s celebration of diversity.

I hope to see all the moms next Tuesday for Bring Your Mom to School Day!

Parent to Parent

On Tuesday, November 9, 2010, a Johns Creek Police Officer will be in the Northview Media Center from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. to speak about Social Networking, cyber bullying and its effects on kids, predators on line, bullying, and general safety issues. This presentation will be followed by a discussion period. Registration for this program is not required, but we would like to know an approximate number of those who wish to attend. For more information and/or to sign up, please email Donna Evans or call (678) 584-9232.

Attention All Veterans of the North Fulton Community!

The Northview High School Titan JROTC Club would like to invite you to our Annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. This year, we will honor our Veterans on the Northview High School Faculty as well as from the local community. The first assembly will begin at 9:30 a.m and the second assembly will start at 10:20 a.m. If you would like to be recognized for your service, please send your name, rank, branch of service, and dates of service to See you there!

Secret Santa Shop

Every year, Northview’s Student Council hosts a Secret Santa Shop at Mimosa Elementary School in Roswell. In fact, we were recognized last year with a special award from Fulton County Schools acknowledging this unique partnership between the two schools. Mimosa students have the opportunity to “shop” for gifts for their parents with the help of our Student Council representatives and officers. The special day starts with a pancake breakfast with Santa then the children are given the opportunity to select a gift for each of their family members.

We are asking Northview’s faculty and staff to do two things:

1. Donate “like-new” items (housewares, clothing – ties, purses, etc…) from your own house as you have in the past. We will also gladly take any brand-new items (no more than $10-15…ties from a discount store) for these children to give to their parents.

2. CONTEST details: Encourage your classes to bring in the same items that we would like for you to donate. Student Council will provide a Chick-Fil-A breakfast for the 1st period class that collects the most items. Please start collecting items ASAP. The contest ends on Monday, November 22nd. We’ll ask teachers to email a total from their class periods on that day, so please keep track.

Your children may be coming home and asking you for items to contribute to this worthy cause. It is truly awe inspiring to see the glee in these children’s eyes when they select a special gift for that loved one! Please help our kids make this another unforgettable year for the Mimosa students!
