Greetings Fellow Titans –
This edition of the e-newsletter contains some pertinent information of interest to many. Please take the time to read through each item and take advantage of the opportunities that are being presented.

While the vast majority of you have already seen your student’s final grades from the Fall semester, please be aware that transcripts were sent home with your child on Friday, January 21st. We will be using this information in the coming weeks to help determine your child’s eligibility for classes in the 2011-12 school year, so please review the transcript and let us know of any discrepancies.

Fulton County has released information about the makeup of this month’s snow days. I have included that information once again in this newsletter for your reference.
The two make-up days for students will be Friday, March 11, which was set aside as a teacher workday, and Friday, April 22, which originally was a day off for both students and teachers.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have –

Ever Upward and Onward!

Deadline is Feb. 15 for hardship transfer applications

Applications are now available for parents who wish to apply for a 2011-12 hardship transfer or to renew a current hardship to another Fulton elementary, middle or high school. With recent changes to the Fulton County policy, academic hardships are now available not only for programs of study in the Career Tech areas, but also for World Languages.

Northview currently offers French, Spanish, Latin, German, and Chinese. While French and Spanish are offered at all high schools, the other three languages are not as prevalent. We are proud of the extensive offerings in all of our languages – from first year through Advanced Placement – and also have numerous exchange possibilities that allow for students to fully explore the cultural enrichment of another language.

Parents can use an online form, available through the “Parents” section of school system’s web site, to enter their information and then print it to obtain signatures and/or supporting documentation. Although using the online form will help expedite processing time, applications also can be picked up at all schools as well as the Fulton County Schools Administrative Center.

The deadline for submitting a transfer application is Feb. 15, 2011, by 4:30 p.m., with no exceptions or extensions granted. All requests must be received or postmarked by this date and time. Applications can be sent by mail, fax or hand-delivery to:
Fulton County Schools’ Student Assignment Office
             c/o Meadows Operations Center
             5270 Northfield Blvd.
             College Park, GA 30349
             404-763-5546 (fax)

In addition, school system employees who have children receiving an employee hardship transfer must renew their request through the Student Assignment office. Instead of employees submitting an employee verification letter from their school or location, this year the Human Resources Department will verify employment directly with the Student Assignment office.

The Feb. 15 deadline applies to students and parents seeking a hardship transfer for medical reasons, curriculum differences, child care situations or for employees’ children. Schools participating in open enrollment, a separate transfer process that allows students to move to a school with available space, will be announced in early May.

Parents with questions or who need more information about hardship transfers can contact the Fulton County Schools’ Student Assignment Office at 404-763-5550 or click here to visit the website.
Attention Northview School Community:
The Northview High School Counseling Department and NHS Student Council are co-sponsoring the documentary “Race to Nowhere” and invite all Northview parents, teachers, coaches, students, and staff to attend a private screening, free of charge, of this current, ground-breaking film.  We are screening the movie twice, once on WEDNESDAY, January 26th @ 4:30pm and once on MONDAY, January 31st @ 7pm.  The screenings are free and will be hosted by the Kaleidoscope Club advisers, Ms. Garcia and Ms. Crumbley, with help from teacher leaders, parents, and Northview school administrators.
So that we will have an accurate idea of how many will be attending each screening, we ask you to sign up for a ticket. Please use the links below to access an emailed ticket to one of the 2 screenings.  For space purposes, we must limit this experience to our Northview Community.
