Dear Northview HS Community:
During the Cluster Council meeting on January 14, 2010, we were informed of organizational changes in the Division of Instruction approved by the Fulton County Board of Education Tuesday night, January 12th. These organizational changes modify our alignment with schools feeding into Northview HS, Chattahoochee HS, and the new Johns Creek HS. The revised structure essentially creates new "Areas," with our area being comprised of Northview HS, Banneker HS, Riverwood HS, Independence HS, and McClarin HS along with their feeder schools. We now will be aligned with schools far from the Johns Creek area with issues and needs quite different from those in the current Northview HS Area. The school system has indicated that the primary objectives are to promote a "system-wide" approach, to share techniques for instruction and school improvement, and additionally, and to equalize assignments for area superintendents. We believe these objectives can be accomplished without completely turning our established area inside-out. Students in the other schools in our new area have significantly different issues and needs. We believe that it is important to continue working on issues with schools in our geographic area, schools that have similar issues, needs, and objectives as Northview HS.
The area superintendent assignments for the new plan are as follows:
Operations Area Superintendent: Len Box
Instructional Area Superintendents:
Area 1 – Bob Lynch: Tri-Cities, Roswell Cluster Schools, (21)
Area 2 – Iris Moran: Banneker, Northview and Riverwood Cluster Schools, Independence HS and McClarin HS (18)
Area 3 – Randee Nagler: Westlake, Chattahoochee, Crossroads North Program, Centennial Cluster Schools (20)
Area 4 – Sam Taylor: Langston Hughes, Milton, and Johns Creek Cluster Schools, and South Crossroads Program (20)
Area 5 – Emmett Shaffer: Creekside, Alpharetta, North Springs Cluster Schools (18)
(The number in parentheses indicates the number of schools in the area.)
Late yesterday, we were told that we can continue to work with our geographic area schools, though we don’t have details as to how that will be facilitated given multiple Area Superintendents. Another concern is how our new Area Superintendent will have "time" for our school in light of the other schools which have such dissimilar and time-consuming issues. Lastly, this decision was made without community/public/parental input, which we believe is in the best interest of our children.
Please consider this information and provide your input/concerns as soon as possible to all members of the Fulton County Board of Education and Area Superintendent, Randee Nagler. Additionally, please copy the Northview HS Local School Council, Susan Auerbach, Northview/Chattahoochee/John Creek Cluster Chairperson, and Bob Miller, Chairperson, Superintendent’s Community Council.
