Grading Scale
All grades will be recorded on transcripts and report cards as numeric grades.
The grading scale
is as follows:
A = 90 and above
B = 80 –89
C = 70 –79
F = 69 and below |
Report cards show the numeric grades and the Cumulative Numeric Average for
the reporting period. The Cumulative Numeric Average is determined by adding
all numeric grades together and dividing that total by the number of courses
taken.
Calculations for the HOPE Scholarship are based only
on grades received in language arts, math, science, social studies,
and world languages courses that meet the state core requirements. Effective
with the Class of 2005, all core subjects, including those beyond the
number required of the state core, are counted. If a student repeats
a failed course, both grades are counted for the HOPE average.
Students who successfully complete AP and/or Honors courses will receive
an additional seven points. These honor points will be added to the
final average for each qualifying course.
Promotion/Retention
High school students must earn a certain number of units in order to earn promotion
to the next grade level. Requirements for promotion are:
Freshmen: promotion from eighth grade |
|
Sophomore: minimum of 5 units of credit
|
|
Junior: minimum of 10 units of credit |
|
Senior: minimum of 16 units of credit |
|
Summer school is an extension of the previous school year; therefore,
summer courses count toward promotion to the next grade level.
With the exception of graduating seniors, students will remain in their
assigned grade-level homerooms for the entire school year. Retained
juniors who are on-track for their original graduation date at the start
of the spring semester will be moved to a senior homeroom. On-track
is defined as the student has earned nineteen credits must pass only
his/her regular school day classes to graduate.
AP and Honor Courses
Students who successfully complete AP and/or Honors
courses will receive an additional seven points. These honor
points will be added to the final average for each qualifying
course.
Incomplete Grades
A grade of "incomplete" is only to be assigned under the direction
of an administrator. Students who complete a quarter having
outstanding assignments, test, or exams are to be assigned
a final grade counting the missing grades as zero. If, and
when, the student completes the work, the teacher will submit
a revised grade.
Calculations for the HOPE Scholarship are based only on grades received
in language arts, math, science, social studies, and foreign language courses
that meet the state core requirements. If students take additional core
subjects beyond the number required of the state core, the highest grades
satisfying state core requirements are counted. Currently, if a student
repeats a failed course, the higher grade is counted for the HOPE average.
Effective with the Class of 2005, the two grades will be averaged.
When computing the Cumulative Numeric Average, seven honors points will
be added for each joint enrollment, honors, or College Board Advanced Placement
class passed.
Honor Code Violations
When a student is found cheating, the teacher must issue a grade
of zero for the assignment and complete an Honor Code violation
form.
