Computer/Technology Policy
The school system’s Electronic Network (EN) is to be used solely in support
of the school system’s educational mission. All other uses are strictly
prohibited!
Unauthorized use of the EN or any failure to comply with the local and
system-wide provisions will be grounds for disciplinary and/or legal action.
Students are prohibited from:
•unauthorized/unsupervised access to the EN
•illegal copying of copyrighted software and music
•attempts to log on using another person’s password
•accessing any site, function, or software without specific teacher authorization
•sending unauthorized instant messages or emails
•adding software packages of any kind to the EN
•unauthorized loading/retrieving files from personal diskettes and/or CD’s
•accessing inappropriate material from the EN
•computer vandalism –creating viruses, harming or attempting to harm
or cause
damage to the EN, hardware, software, or data
Use of the Fulton County School System’s computer hardware, software,
and EN is a privilege that may be discontinued at any time. All infractions
must be referred to the offending student’s administrator for disciplinary
action.
Use of the Internet and School Computers
1) Usage is only for classroom research and school projects. The Internet
may not be used for personal reasons, regardless of the circumstances.
Student access to the Internet shall be under the supervision of a teacher
or other appropriate staff member.
2) The Internet should be used in a responsible, ethical, and lawful manner.
Any unauthorized use of the internet or any failure to comply with the
local and system-wide provisions will be grounds for appropriate disciplinary
and/or legal action as well as loss of Internet privileges.
3) The school system’s Internet is to be used solely in support
of the school system’s educational mission. All other uses are strictly
prohibited. The internet shall not be used to publish or transmit any information
that (a) violates or infringes upon the rights of any other person; (b)
contains materials that reasonably would be considered abusive, profane,
or sexually offensive; (c) contains any advertisement or solicitation of
goods or services that are not school related; (d) relates to the user’s
personal business or commercial activity; (e) solicits the performance
of any unlawful act; (f) encourages the use of controlled substances; of
(g) violates any local, state, or federal law, state or local school board
policy, procedure, or rules.
4) Students are allowed to access the Northview website, www.northviewhigh.com
to access school information and events calendars.
5) Students and employees should assume that any material accessed on
the internet is the property of another party and that copyright laws restrict
use of the material unless there is definite evidence to the contrary.
6) Attempts to log into the internet using another person’s password,
falsely posing as a school system administrator, or other security violations
are grounds for termination of privileges and disciplinary measures.
7) Computer vandalism is prohibited and will result in immediate termination
of Internet and computer access as well as appropriate disciplinary action.
Prohibited conduct includes: creating computer viruses; harming or attempting
to harm or destroy school system hardware, software or data; harming or
attempting to harm the data of another user, the internet, or any agencies
or networks that are connected to the internet. Violators are subject to
criminal prosecution.
8) Students who fail to properly log-off will be fined.
9) Students who fail to return laptops to the circulation desk are subject
to denial of laptop use and appropriate disciplinary action.
Internet use is subject to electronic monitoring.
Violation of the Internet Policy is considered a major disciplinary infraction.
The Northview
Media Center exists not only to provide materials, services, and
equipment to students, faculty, and parents, but also to assist in the
production, organization, and effective use of instructional materials.
The Northview Media Center maintains a collection that exceeds 15,000
books and periodicals as well as a computer lab for Internet research.
Students may visit the Media Center for individual reading, browsing,
research, and study. Students who are disruptive will be asked to leave.
The Media Center is available to students before school and during lunch.
Students whose teachers have given permission for them to use the Media
Center during class must have a written library pass from the teacher.
Only official Northview media passes will be accepted.
All students must sign-in upon entering the Media Center.
No food or drink is allowed in the Media Center.
Students are allowed to check out books for two weeks; books may be renewed
for two weeks if needed. Reference books may not be checked out. Current/back
issues of periodicals and videos may be checked out overnight.
Students assume responsibility for the replacement and/or repair of lost
or damaged materials that are checked out in his/her name.
