Field Trips
Field Trips are an extension of classroom and/or student organization activities;
therefore, all policies and procedures of the Fulton County School System
and Northview High School are in effect during field trips. Prior to participating
in a field trip, students
must return the parental consent and teacher sign-off
form to the sponsoring teacher prior to the stated deadline. Eligibility
for participation in field trips is based on the following criteria for each
class to be missed:
- minimum average of 74 in each class
- no more than three tardies during current grading period
- no more than four excused absences during the current grading period
- no unexcused absences during the current grading period
- no assignments to in-school or out-of-school suspension during the current semester
Students who are ineligible for participation in field trips may regain
eligibility at the start of the next semester. Eligibility exceptions will
be considered for events such as music festivals, FBLA competitions, or
Model UN when activities are deemed as required major functions of the
curriculum.
Fines
Students are responsible for damage to, or loss of, their books, sports uniforms,
or any school property. All school records will be held, including report
cards, if restitution is not made. Money owed for fines, lost books, damaged
equipment, etc., must be paid by cash, money order, or bank check; personal
checks will not be accepted.
Payments of School Fees and Fines
Personal checks will be accepted for the payment of school fees until March
15; after that time, cash, money order, or bank check may only be accepted.
Personal
checks are not accepted at any time for payment of lost books, damaged
equipment,
or other fines.
Gifts for Staff Members
There are occasions during which it is appropriate for a student to honor a
teacher with a gift. Students and parents are reminded that it is the gesture
of giving and not the actual gift that is of essence. Gifts should never
exceed $25.00 monetary value and should be presented in a manner exhibiting
discretion and proper decorum.
Messages
Only messages from a custodial parent or guardian can be relayed to a student.
Because delivery interrupts classroom instruction, only messages of an emergency
nature can be accepted.
Hands On Northview
Hands On Northview are days of service in which students, parents, faculty,
and community members join together to improve the appearance of our school.
Held each fall and spring, volunteers plant flowers, trees, and make other
improvements to the school grounds.
Lockers –Hall
Lockers remain the property of the school district and are provided for the
use and convenience of the students. Under state law, students do not have
any expectation of privacy in their locker or its contents. All hall lockers
contain built-in locks. Private locks are not to be placed on hall lockers.
Hall lockers are rented for the entire school year at a cost of $10.00.
Students may obtain a locker on Information Day or from the Media Center
during the school year.
Lockers should not be forced open; any cost to repair a damaged locker
will be the responsibility of the student. Jammed lockers are to be reported
to the main office.
Student lockers are intended for individual use only by the student who
paid and registered for the locker. For security issues, students are not
allowed to share or trade lockers. Sharing or trading of lockers will result
in loss of locker privilege. Under no circumstances should a student give
his/her locker combination to another student.
The principal or a member of the administrative staff may conduct a general
search of all student lockers, or of all lockers in a general area if reasonable
grounds exist to believe that such lockers are being used to store items
indicating a violation of the law and/or school rules. Students will not
necessarily be given the opportunity to be present during such general
searches. Particular care shall be taken to protect the student’s
privacy interest regarding written material contained in the locker.
Lockers –PE and Athletics
Physical Education locker rooms are equipped with student lockers for the storage
of personal items.
Locks may be rented for $3.00 per semester through the PE teachers. All locks
used on physical education lockers or storage areas are to be provided or approved
by the school. Unauthorized locks may be removed and destroyed.
Athletic cages are not intended to provide security for personal belongings.
The cages are designed to provide overnight storage of athletic
uniforms and equipment. All personal items should be locked in a PE locker
during
athletic practices. At a minimum, valuables should be secured
in the lock boxes provided with the cages. Because of the high volume of
traffic in
the locker rooms, the school cannot assume any responsibility
for clothing, books, valuables, or personal items left unsecured in any
PE or athletic
facilities.
Open Gym
The Auxiliary Gym is available each morning, 8:00 am –8:25 am, for open
gym. No food or drinks are allowed in the gymnasium. This is the only time
students are permitted in the gym for free play. Basketballs will be provided;
students are not to bring personal basketballs to school.
Resource Officer
Officers Keith Johnson, Steve Moore and Linda Robinson, certified police officers possessing
full arrest powers, serve as our full-time Resource Officers. They are on
duty after school to provide supervision for students participating in after
school activities.
