Science Force is a service club that includes qualified Juniors and Seniors. It allows students to assist elementary school students with hands on science learning opportunities. The purpose of the club is to provide positive role models for the Elementary students, while applying their knowledge of science. It is a great way to build self esteem and get community service credits.
Requirements for Membership: Junior or Senior, possessing a driver's license.
Dues: None
The Science Force Club consists of a group of students who are willing to assist in the Science Force program at Medlock Bridge, State Bridge, and Wilson Road Elementary School. The Science Force is a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) funded program that promotes hands-on experience in Science for elementary students, to make them successful in science. This program is designed to supplement the elementary classroom curriculum. It is always in need of volunteers, and what better volunteers than High School students who enjoy science and its hands on aspects.
Purpose:
- To help students understand scientific principles and promote appreciation for science, application of knowledge, self-reflection, good citizenship, and time management skills
- Promote self-esteem, a feeling of being wanted and respected, engagement in the community, and an enthusiasm to learn.
- Strengthen students personal and social skills, instill creativity and enthusiasm, and promote the learning of science amongst the people with whom they work.
- Get students to realize how far they had come in science.
- Promote cooperative learning amongst students and help them gain a better understanding of the subject matter.
- Provide a great opportunity for students planning to purse a career in education.
Students in the Science Force Club …..
- Love Science and its Hands on Aspect.
- Are able to help small groups of students follow directions.
- Have their own transportation.
- Have a great variety of science labs, days, and timings to choose from, for volunteering; thereby giving the students a chance to miss a class in which they were doing well.
- Follow proper procedures for volunteering at the various schools.
- Go prepared when assisting with the various labs.
- Provide feedback on the lab experience as well as the lab design
Students Volunteering in the Science Force will follow this procedure:
- Email Ms. Bhardwaj and regularly check your email for lab postings in the various schools.
- Come Friday evenings in Room 138 to collect the forms for the various upcoming labs.
- Complete the Permission Slip.
- Turn in the Permission Slip to Ms. Bhardwaj the day of or before the lab.
- Have Ms. Bhardwaj give you a copy of the permission slip.
- Take a copy with you as your permission slip when leaving and entering the school.
- I will be emailing the attendance officer the names of the students going to the various elementary schools.
- Upon entering the school, please sign in and sign out when entering and leaving the school.
- Email Ms. Bhardwaj the answers to the Feedback Form - available on this webpage.
