Army JROTC is a high school course of study supplemented by out of classroom experiences. Program emphasis is on leadership skills and person al development refined through the curriculum and related student organizations. Cadets may attend JROTC summer camps where they participate in confidence courses, team sports, land navigation, and water safety techniques. Participants must meet Georgia High School Association eligibility requirements
for interscholastic competition. Mission: " Motivate young people to become better citizens " The Northview High School JROTC program is well on the road to success; this program is a year long dual elective which can serve as either a college or technical Prep. Elective. Our mission goal is to motivate young people to become better citizens; this is done through a variety of small group instructional methods which teach young people how to respect others and themselves. The JROTC program is built around an Army style organization called a Battalion, it is staffed with students in various leadership and staff positions; it is actually run by the students with oversight from the two JROTC instructors LTC Travis Heard and 1SG John Adams. These instructors work very hard to ensure all students are afforded a very challenging, dynamic and fun filled program. Other curriculum goals are, but not limited to: Promote responsible citizenship, develop leadership abilities, improve communication skills, provide incentives to live addiction free, encourage creative thinking, strengthen self-esteem, improve physical fitness, enhance team building skills, career development, financial planning to name just a few. We also teach first aid, political science, conflict resolution, map reading and orienteering, and geography. Students are afforded the opportunity to participate in the following extracurricular activities: Uniforms: Cadets are required to wear their uniform once a week usually on Wednesdays; uniforms are issued at no cost to cadets, they are required to keep them laundered and pressed. Other: Students are required to cut hair; hair may not exceed three inches on top and must be off ears and neck; additionally no ear rings are allowed in class or in uniform at any time for male students.
