Congrats Ms. Booth!

Northview HiMs.Booth and Ceremicsgh School Visual Art Department Chair, Jessica Booth has been awarded a Japanese Fulbright Scholarship to study ceramics in Japan during the 2007- 2008 school year. The prestigious Fulbright Scholarship is awarded to 400 American K-12 Educators annually with a minimum of two and maximum of six selected per state for the June and October three week cycles. Ms. Booth’s proposal was accepted to study in Japan for three weeks in October 2007 with all expenses paid based on a proposal she submitted last year. Her proposal centered on researching the development of Asian ceramic techniques while abroad and then teaching a series of ceramics lessons based on her findings to the students at Northview High School. Her follow up plan must be completed in the school year following her return and in addition to the lessons includes a website to share information with other Fulton County Art Educators and a staff development class she will teach to other art teachers the techniques and lessons based on the experience. The Japanese Fulbright experience includes studying a large school system in Tokyo and a smaller prefect school district in order to see how education varies among the different prefects or states in Japan. A home stay with a Japanese family for a weekend, a night in a traditional Japanese Hatong, a Japanese baseball game, and trips to all points of interest in the areas she travels are also included in the award.
